Kantharos

🍷 The Kantharos of Dionysus: Myth, History & Fine Craftsmanship

For this creation, I drew inspiration from the captivating subject by the Menon Painter, featured on an Attic black-figure ceramic plate housed at the British Museum (originally from Vulci, dated to the last quarter of the 6th century BC).

Dionysus, the god of wine and celebration, is frequently depicted with his most iconic attribute: the kantharos (from the Greek κάνϑαρος), the classic drinking cup of ancient symposia. Its shape is instantly recognizable, defined by a deep bowl and two elegant vertical handles extending proudly above the rim.

Perhaps the most cherished vessel among the Etruscans — often crafted in signature black bucchero ware — this piece is offered in classic silver as well as with a sleek black rhodium plating, directly honoring that ancient tradition.

✨ Pictured here is our new platinum-plated silver jewel, entirely sculpted by hand in wax and cast using the ancient lost-wax casting technique. The delicate handles were then individually soldered and refined using silver wire.
